Milestones
of our history

1805: FOUNDATION

1883: Phylloxera

Croizet was founded in 1805 by Léon Croizet, a distinguished sommelier to Napoleon I's High Command, setting the foundation for what would become one of the world's most illustrious cognac houses. This auspicious beginning marked not just the inception of a brand but the birth of a legacy steeped in the rich soil and venerable traditions of the Grande Champagne region, universally acclaimed for yielding the finest cognacs.

In 1883, Benjamin Léon Croizet, a descendant of the founder, played a pivotal role in saving the Cognac industry from the phylloxera crisis. By innovatively replanting American vines resistant to pests and implementing stone wall protections around the vineyards, Croizet's methods were crucial in overcoming this challenge. Benjamin was honoured with France's highest award for his significant contributions, the Légion d'honneur.

2011: Record

2024: TODAY

On 24th September 2011, Croizet set a Guinness World Record with the sale of a single bottle of Cuvée Leonie from the 1858 harvest. This bottle was auctioned in Shanghai for 1 million yuan (approximately $156,760), becoming the most expensive cognac sold at auction. This sale highlighted Croizet's commitment to excellence and its position as a producer of some of the world's most sought-after and collectable cognacs.

Fast-forward to 2024, and Croizet continues to honour its rich heritage while embracing the challenges and opportunities of the modern era. With a legacy spanning over two centuries, Croizet remains dedicated to crafting cognacs of exceptional quality, combining traditional techniques with innovative practices to delight cognac enthusiasts around the globe.
